Athletes of the Week
The Tyler Star News Athletes of the week for Jan. 11, 2017 are Paden City basketball players Hayden Hizer and Matt Saxon
Hizer, a four-year starter at guard for the Wildcats, had an exceptional game against Bishop Donahue as he poured in 23 points on 7-8 shooting from the three point line and was 2-2 at the foul line.
Hizer, who is co-captain of the Wildcats, also dished out four assists and came up with three steals on the night, while also handling the ball during to break the Bishops press. Coach King call him “a coach and leader on the floor.”
Saxon, a sophomore, is coming into his own and looks to be one of the Wildcats’ future leaders. Against the Bishops the 5′ 7″ guard knocked in 13 points including a two from long range. Saxon has a combination of speed and court awareness which were evident as he also dished out six assists, grabbed five rebound and was credited with two steals.
“He is starting to understand the game well and has a desire to get better. I can say that about all my underclassmen. I am very proud of how they are coming together as a team,” King said.
