Pilots Cruise Past Wildcats

HANNIBAL — River jumped out to a quick 24-6 first quarter lead and never looked back as it steamrolled Paden City 76-52 when the two teams met Dec. 27 across the river. Led by Lukas Isaly, the Pilots forced several early turnovers into points and used superior work around the basket for easy shots to take a 46-26 halftime lead and the Wildcats could never recover.

Paden City, however, outscored the Pilots 32-27 in the second half, but it wasn’t enough as River received 18 points from Isaly, 13 from Jordan Doty, 11 from Cody Hupp and 11 from Issac Curtis while Michael Collins pitched in eight, Wyatt Reynolds seven and Drew Dietz added six.

Senior scoring ace Aaron Heasley, who averages 27 points per game for Paden City, pumped in 28 for the Wildcats while senior backcourt mate Hayden Hizer added 10. Matt Saxon, who has been coming on lately, finished with 11 on the night. Seth Bohrer got a bucket and Trey Slider added a foul shot to round out the Cat’s scoring.

Heasley added five rebounds and Slider grabbed four to pace Paden City. Hizer dished out six assists.

Leading the way for River was Isaly with 10 assists and nine rebounds while Dietz grabbed seven boards and added two blocks. The Pilots recorded eight 3-points goals and the Wildcats had seven.

Paden City went made 15-24 foul shot compared to River’s 6-10 but the Pilots had 30 field goals to the Wildcats 15. Paden City was also charged with 10 turnovers to just four for the Pilots.

The Wildcats fell to 2-3 with the loss while River improved to 5-1 on the season.

River also took the JV game 57-24. Paden City’s Garrett Cross recorded 15 points to lead the scoring.
