Huge First Half Leads Wildcats to 76-35 Victory

HUNDRED — Aaron Heasley paced three double-digit Wildcat scorers with a game-high 29 points as the Wildcats defeated Hundred 76-35 in boys’ basketball on Dec. 20 inside the Hornets Nest at HHS. Hayden Hizer and Matt Saxon totaled 38 points, that included three bonus bombs, six steals, 12 assists and 11 rebounds for the 2-2 Wildcats.

Heasley opened the scoring in the first period with a pair of made free throws, then added two steals and a pair of deuces to give the visitors a quick, 6-0 lead.

The Hornets’ Danny Stewart sank the Hornets first basket at the 4:20 mark, however, the Wildcats’ Saxon drained a triple, that got the Hornets’ Head Coach Virgil Wilkins to call an early time-out.

After the break, Stewart tallied a basket, but Saxon and Seth Bohrer each added a two-pointer, while Hizer ripped four consecutive free throws to close out period one with the Wildcats holding on to a 19-4 lead.

Heasley opened the second period with a three-pointer and a pair of charity tosses, before the Hornets sophomore power forward Travis McCoy drained a pair of free-throws.

Hizer and Heasley each added three-balls, that forced another Hundred time-out. Heasley and Hizer then added a deuce and a pair of free-throws, respectively, before Stewart stopped the bleeding with a rebound put-back, and another two-pointer.

Hizer made the back-end of a two-shot foul, then drained a deep three before the Hornets Devon Kimble knocked in a jumper off the glass. Heasley would answer with a conventional three points play, while Hizer closed out the first half with a charity toss to end the first half with Paden City leading, 44-12.

The Hornets scored the first five points to start the second half with a Kimble three-ball and a Cody Soles deuce. However, Heasley scored a deuce and a pair of freebies, before Hundred’s McCoy netted a basket from inside the paint.

Heasley and Kimble each added a pair of baskets for their respective clubs, with Paden City extending the lead to 62-24 with eight minutes remaining.

Stewart opened the final period with a steal and a deuce for Hundred, while Ryan Cross tickled the twine from beyond the arch for the ‘Cats. Hizer would score two straight baskets, before Stewart drained a pair off free-throws for the Hornets.

Hizer would score off a rebound, before the Hornets Bubby Matthews drilled a two-pointer. Kimble followed with a deuce, while Saxon added a triple and a deuce. Stewart drained a triple to end the game.

Heasley led all-scorers with 29 points, while Hizer added 20 and Saxon got his season high of 18.

In addition, Ryan Cross drilled a three-ball, while Weber, Bohrer and Garrett Cross each sank a two-pointer for all the Paden City scoring. Garrett Cross added seven rebounds and made three steals, while Weber hauled in seven rebounds.

Stewart paced the Hornets with 17 points, while Kimble netted a dozen. McCoy added four points and grabbed four boards, while Matthews and Soles each sank a deuce.

In addition, Tyler Norris and Soles each grabbed four rebounds, while Norris rejected four Wildcat shots.

In the junior varsity tilt, Paden City made it a clean sweep, winning 38-30. Trey Slider paced the Paden City reserves with seven points, while Bryant McClay added six, and Ryan Cross and Walter Joy each netted five points for the ‘Cats.

Austin Stiles paced the Hornets with nine markers, while Bryce Bartrug netted seven points. Logan Norris and Cole Henderson each sank a pair of two-pointers for the Hundred Hornets.
