Silver Knights’ Girls Lose Opener to Yellow Jackets

By Staff | Dec 7, 2016

WILLIAMSTOWN — Playing on the road is always tough, but you better be on your game against a team of Williamstown’s caliber.

The Silver Knights’ girls found that out quickly Thursday night as they faced the fullcourt pressure of Williamstown ‘s defense from start to finish.

Although the Knight started out respectable and were only down 15-9 near the end of the first period, they couldn’t hold on and the trapping pressure defense of the Yellow Jackets proved to be too much as they cruised to an 86-45 victory. The Yellow Jackets came into the season opener ranked number four in Class A and soon proved the polls to be right. They have good depth and run players in and out to wear you down. Four players hit for double figures for Williamstown with point guard Ashley Morris knocking down 19.

The Silver Knights had three double scorers of their own with sophomore Josey Jones lighting it up with 13. She was backed by Aleah Black with 10 and Peyton Kocher with three long balls and 10 points. Also scoring for the Silver Knights were Joralda Rice with two points, Amanda Reynolds with six, Alexa Johnson with one, Autumn Wells with two and JoLee Walton with one.

“Williamstown has a great ball club and they put a lot of pressure on us bring the ball up the floor,” TCHS’ Coach Cathy Boggs said. “We got some work to do but we’ll get back at it and correct some mistakes, we have to have better passing and find a way to get the ball in the basket. The girls played hard and that’s all I can ask.”
