TCHS Hosts Stormin’ the Castle

By Staff | Sep 6, 2016

MIDDLEBOURNE More than 300 cross country runners will compete today at the Stormin’ the Castle meet hosted by Tyler Consolidated High School.

Racers from nine high school and eight middle school teams will take on the challenging hills in the forest behind the school. This isn’t any flat and fast golf course, but a race that is sure to make the best runners remember this 5K long after they’ve graduated.

“I am excited to host our home meet this season,” TCHS Coach Brenna Haggerty said. “It is fun to see how the runners compete on such a difficult course.”

Middle school girls’ race starts at 4:30 p.m; boys at 4:55 p.m; High school girls at 5:20 p.m; boys at 6:05 p.m.

Silver Knights’ Jahnvi Duncan said she is ready to take on the competition.

I’m very hopeful of this because we run this everyday I’ve been running this since seventh grade,” said Duncan, a junior.

Silver Knights’ Gavin Corley added, “I hope to go out top 15 and use the hills to advance. I want to finish strong.

Duncan made note of sophomore Katie Pratt, who is getting faster in her second season with the Silver Knights.

“She’s more than my teammate she’s like family I have a lot of faith in her and I know that she is going to get better each race,” she said.

Due to the newspaper’s production schedule, the results from the race will appear in the Sept. 14 edition of the Tyler Star News.
