Cosper, Baker and Heasley Are Players of Week

By Staff | Apr 27, 2016

This week’s athletes of the week are Taylor Cosper, a Paden City senior softball player; Jordan Baker, a Tyler Consolidated baseball player; and Aaron Heasley, a Paden City baseball player.

Within the past two weeks, Cosper has stepped up to the plate for her consistent play as an infielder and pitcher for the Wildcats’ softball team. Recently, Cosper lifted the Wildcats to a three-inning mercy rule game against Jefferson County Christian going 3-3 at the plat with two triples and five RBI.

Last week, Cosper went 6-7 from the plate in a double header split with St. John’s while picking up a win on the mound. She had five singles and a triple. She picked up another win, pitching six innings in a 14-7 win over Beallsville.

Baker is a do-everything guy for Tyler Consolidated – he can play almost any position on the field, plus he is a clutch hitter. Recently, Baker threw a complete game against the state-ranked South Harrison Hawks to pick up the win for the Silver Knights. During that game, Baker also hit a double and scored two runs. Baker had a big day with three hits against Calhoun County including a two-run homer while scoring four runs and knocking in four runners.

Last week, Baker also knocked in four runs, going 4-5 from the plate including a long home run while pitching a complete game, striking out seven in a win over Cameron. In a tough loss to Magnolia, Baker Stole home to score the tying run in the bottom of the seventh and send the game into extra innings. He also hit for a double with an RBI.

Paden City’s Heasley, a junior all-sport athlete, recently pitched a complete game against Clay Battelle by striking out 11 batters, walking only four and giving up three hits.

Last week, Heasley doubled in a big win against Cameron with the bases loaded knocking in three runs. Against Madonna in the OVAC semi-final game, he came up big with one of Paden City’s only two hits when he hit a double to score two runs as the Cat’s advanced 3-0 to this Friday’s championship game against Bishop Donahue.
