Knights Softball Battles On

The Silver Knights traveled to Calhoun County on Saturday and split a doubleheader with the hosts. In game one, the Knights had their bats working as they pounded out 14 hits in route to a 10-0 five inning win.

Vanessa Templeton picked up the win for Tyler Consolidated, going the distance striking out three batters and giving up only two hits, while also going 2-4 at the plate and scoring two runs.

JoLee Walton drove in two runs on 2-3 batting and also scored a run. Madison Lasick had three RBI on 2-4 plate appearances and scored two runs while Kylie Martin also knocked in two runs with a 2-3 night at the plate. Joralda Rice was 2-2 with an RBI and Madison West scored three runs and was 3-4 batting.

In game two, the Silver Knights found themselves in a battle to the finish, losing in the bottom of the seventh 12-11. With the score 11-9 after five innings, the Knights plated two in the seventh to tie things up, however, the host team managed to get a run in their half of the inning and come away with the win.

The Silver Knights outhit Calhoun 18-14 in the game, but committed seven errors to none for the home team. Walton, a freshman, continued to hit well as she went 3-4 with two RBI and scored a run.

West also had a hot bat going 4-5 from the plate and knocking in a run. Brianna Wade got two hits in four at-bats and knocked in two runs while drilling a double; she also scored a run. Danielle Grimes was 2-4, Martin went 2-4 with an RBI and scored a run while Rice got one hit, scored a run and had a RBI. West took the loss on the mound going the distance and giving up 14 hit, and 12 runs. She also had five strikeouts and three walks. The Silver Knights now stand at 7-9 on the season.

Lady Knights Fall to Ritchie, South Harrison

Tyler Consolidated’s softball team dropped a five-inning game 9-1 at Ritchie County on Friday to fall to 6-8 on the season. Templeton pitched a strong game the first four innings, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the fifth by giving up nine runs on nine hits. She had two strikeouts and no walks. The Rebels ace pitcher Kenna DeLancy went the distance pitching a two-hitter with no walks and 12 strikeouts.

Grimes and Martin both got hits for the Silver Knights. Rice scored the Knights only run when she stole home. The Knights looked to be right in the game, but errors and lack of hitting gave the 9-4 Rebels the win.

South Harrison made the trip to Tyler Consolidated on April 14 to do battle against the Silver Knights. West took the loss by pitching five innings and giving up nine hits and six runs, while striking out three. Templeton came in as relief and threw the last one and two thirds innings. South Harrison jumped out quickly to a 3-0 lead, but the Knights plated two in the second to close the gap. The Hawks, however, added one more in the fourth and two in the sixth while the Knights fell one short by scoring once in the sixth and two in the bottom of the seventh for the 6-5 loss.

Rice led the Knights in hitting going 2-3 and knocking in a run with a triple and a single. Templeton and Martin both added doubles with Templeton getting an RBI and scoring a run. Rhianna Long also went 2-3 and scored a run while Kenna Smith was 1-4 with a run scored. Martin also scored two runs and West got two hits on four attempts.

Silver Knights Endure

The Silver Knights fell 11-2 to Ohio powerhouse River on April 8.

The Knights made the trip to Sardis in hopes of improving its record, but the Pilots were too much as they put six runs on the board in the third inning to go up 8-2. They added three more over the next three innings to come away with the win. Tyler Consolidated tied things up at two after the second inning, but River clamped down and held them scoreless the remainder of the contest.

Templeton took the loss for the Silver Knights as she gave up 12 hits and issued two walks. She struck out three Pilot batters in a complete game. Madison Lasick, Templeton and Martin all collected hits going 1-3. Walton also went 1-3 driving in two runs on a hard shot triple.

Tyler Consolidated’s Silver Knights softball team traveled to Elizabeth to battle the Wirt County Tigers on April 5. The teams entered the seventh inning tied at 1-1 when the Silver Knights exploded for four runs in the top of the seventh to claim the win 5-1. Tyler out hit the Tigers 11-8 to improve to 5-4 on the season.

Lasick went 2-4 from the plate and drove in a run to lead the Silver Knights. Walton and Rice both added an RBI. Long pounded out two hits in four at bats and Smith, Martin and West all added a hit. Templeton got the win from the mound and went 4-4 at the plate while adding a run. West, Martin, Lasick and Smith all scored for the Knights. Templeton gave up eight hits while striking out four with no walks.
