TCHS Star Receives All-State Honors

By Staff | Mar 23, 2016

SISTERSVILLE – The Class A All-State Girls Basketball Team, as selected by members of the West Virginia Sports Writers Association, included Tyler Consolidated High School star Vanessa Templeton.

During the past season, Templeton shot 71 percent from the free-throw line and she averaged 9.4 points per game with 6.7 rebounds.

“Vanessa has to play the big girl position and she’s barely 5-6 inches tall,” said Silver Knights’ coach Cathy Boggs. “She holds her own with kids that are four or five inches taller than she is. She is an all-around team player who plays with a lot of emotion and heart.”

Boggs noted that for the All-LKC team, Ariel Fish, a senior, made the second team while Katelyn Gogan, a senior, and Amanda Reynolds, a sophomore, both made third team. Fish shot 8 points per game along with 8.7 rebounds and 2.8 steals. Gogan averaged 4.7 rebounds along with 3.3 steals and 2.9 assists. Reynolds was the team’s leading scorer by averaging 10 points per game.

“All three of these girls are complete team players,” Boggs said. “They worked hard all season to help us achieve our winning record – 13-12 overall – as well as a chance to play in the regional championship in Weirton-Madonna. They only lost by seven points in that game, but the score doesn’t tell the whole story.”
