Knight netters seeing success on the court

Facing off with substantial competition last week, the Lady Knight varsity volleyball team at Tyler Consolidated won all but one of their matches. The team took wins over Ravenwood, St. Marys and Buckeye Local, and dropped a complete game to the Lady Monarchs of John Marshall.

With their season record standing at 11-3 at this point in the season, the Silver and Black continue to take on all comers in their bid for top notch post season play.

On Sept. 26 at Ravenswood the Lady Knights took the win over the Lady Devils in two, 25-20 and 25-13.

Senior Sydney Reed highlighted the game at the service line with 12 points on the day. Fellow senior Megan Carpenter added six points (one ace); Hillary Casteel, four points (one ace); Kerstyn Cline, three points (one ace); Ariel Fish, two points and Bridget Matthews, one point. Carpenter also had seven kills and two blocks in the contest; Matthews, five kills, five blocks; Fish, five kills, three digs; Reed, four kills; Sydney Yoho, two kills, three blocks; Casteel, four digs; Carly Fletcher, four digs; Lilli Orr, one dig; and Madison West contributed four digs.

At the setter’s position, Cline had 41 good sets in the game and 18 assists.

Against the Lady Blue Devils of St. Marys, Tyler Consolidated pocketed the win in two, 25-12 and 25-9.

At the service line, Reed shined again with 11 points (one ace). She also had six kills in the game. Fish served six points; Matthews served five points (two aces) and had three kills; Yoho, five points (tow aces) and one kill; Casteel, three points, two digs; Carpenter chipped in eight kills and a blocvk; Fletcher, four digs; West, two digs; and Breanna Hartley was credited with two digs.

Cline served nine points (two aces) and had four digs.

On Sept. 28 the Ladies in Silver and Black participated in a tri at John Marshall with the Lady Monarchs and Beaver Local.

It took three games, but the Consolidated team prevailed over Local by scores of 25-18, 19-25 and 26-24.

Scoring by the Lady Knights in the contest was led by Cline who put 13 points (five aces) on the board for Consolidated. She also contributed eight digs, 66 sets and 23 assists. Carpenter totaled 10 points with five aces. She also contributed eight kills, three blocks and a dig in the process. Reed added eight points (one ace), three digs, three blocks and five kills; Casteel scored five points (two aces) and had six digs; Matthews scored one point, had one block and 10 kills; Fish, one point, ten digs, nine kills; Fletcher, one point, 11 digs; West, eight digs; Yoho, one dig, one block, one kill and three assists.

Though they put up quite the battle, the John Marshall team found a way to plow through the Knight defenses with some hard hitting of their own, taking the overall win in three, 25-15, 22-25 and 25-13.

For the Silver, Reed scored eight points (one ace), had two digs, one block and five kills; Fletcher had six points (one ace) and 11 digs; Carpenter served five points, had four blocks and four kills; Casteel, four points, five digs; Fish, four points, five digs, four kills; Matthews, six kills, two blocks; Orr, two digs; West, eight digs; and Hartley, three digs.

Cline served up three points, added four digs and had 48 sets and 16 assists.

The Lady Knights will host Ritchie County and Parkersburg Catholic in an LKC match-up on Oct. 3 at home.
