Knights win over Lumberjacks
The Silver Knight boys basketball team at Tyler Consolidated started the season off on the right foot with a win, but then found themselves the underdogs in couple of punishing contests.
On Dec. 6 at Valley, the Silver Knights and Lumberjacks tangled physically from the opening buzzer, the Knights opening game of the season. Though Valley held tough and led at the end of one, 19-16, Consolidated slowly but surely made their way out in front, eventually taking the win, 69-60.
At the half, the score showed in the Knights favor, 36-31, but the ‘Jacks battled hard for several lead changes in the second half. Good defense and on-the-court thinking in the last period played in the Silver and Black’s favor though, giving them their first win in their first outing of the year.
Sophomore Dylan Romine, led the team in scoring with 17. He also had two rebounds, one assist and one steal. Darren Heintzman, scored 13 points, had seven rebounds,one assist, one steal and one block; Cole Kocher, eight points, three assists, five steals, two rebounds; Alex Doak, seven points, one steal, two rebounds; Justin Carpenter, seven points, one assist; Isaiah Casenelli, six points, one rebound, one assist; Scott Sole, five points, three assists; Drew Casey, four points,three boards, one steal; Evan Cline, two points, four assists and two steals; and Dylan Reynolds, one assist.
At the Coal Classic in Scott on Dec. 9 and 10 the Knights went to battle with the Scott Skyhawks in the opening game, falling to the Hawks 99-57.
The Silver was out-matched from the get-go with Scott putting up 22 points in the first period of play while holding the visitors to 12. By the half, Consolidated was down 43-25, with a need to play a better second half. The last portion of the game was more of a repeat of the first half however, putting the Knight win/loss record at an even 1/1 in the young season.
Sophomore Dylan Reynolds led all Knight scorers in the game with nine points, one assist and one steal. Five Knights scored seven points apiece in the game, including Sole, Cline, Romine, Doak, and Heintzman. Sole had one rebound and one block; Cline, three rebounds, two assists; Romine, three assists, two steals; Doak, one rebound; Casey added six points, one rebound; Edwards, three points; Carpenter, two points; Christian Ice, two points, one rebound; Casenelli, one rebound, two assists; and Kocher, one rebound, four assists.
Against Buffalo on Dec. 10, the Silver Knights put together some good quarters, just not soon enough to get the win as they fell to the Bison, 78-60.

Kocher came through with 13 markers, had one board, two assists and one steal; Heintzman scored five, had nine rebounds, one steal and blocked twice; Reynolds, five points, two rebounds and one steal; Casey, four points, three rebounds; Casenelli, three points, one rebound, one steal; Doak, two points, one steal; Edwards, two points, two rebounds; Ice and Sole each had a rebound.
The Silver Knights hosted Williamstown at home on Tuesday and will host Parkersburg Catholic on Friday, looking for their second win of the season.
