Ladies win over Devils, 49-45

By Staff | Dec 7, 2011

The Lady Knight varsity basketball season got off to a whooping start on Dec. 3 at Ravenswood as the Ladies in Silver played with pizzaz, taking the win, 49-45.

“It was great for the girls,”said head coach of the Consolidated team, Matt Kinnard. “We proved that we can play together and play with anybody, no matter where it is or who it is.”

Tyler Consolidated saw a 10 point lead in the first half dwindle in the last two quarters, finally taking the game into overtime against the Lady Red Devils.

“It was a battle, that’s for sure,” Kinnard said. “I burned four time outs in the fourth period, but it worked out for us. We scored nine points in the overtime period to Ravenswood’s five.”

Sophomore Sophie Kinnard had a double, double in the game with 15 points and 10 rebounds, as did fellow sophomore, Sydney Reed with 14 points and 11 boards. Kinnard was also credited with four assists and three steals while Reed had two assists and a steal.

Lady Knight Myah Charkawi scored nine points, had two assists, five rebounds, and one block; Torrye Cline, nine points, four assists, five rebounds, three steals; and Hilary Casteel had two points, 10 rebounds.

“We played with four sophomores and one junior on the floor for the majority of the game,” the coach said. “But it worked for us and we went with it. The girls played very well under pressure.”

With a win under their belts, the Lady Knights will now go into their next match-up a little more confidence than they started the season with.

The team will play at Williamstown on Dec. 6 and host their first home game of the season on Dec. 8 when they host the Blue Devils of St. Marys at 6 p.m.
