Knight ladies win over ‘Dogs

The Lady Knight volleyball team saw action twice last week, turning in some good performances.

Tyler Consolidated played at Doddridge on Sept. 8 and defeated the Lady ‘Dogs in three games, 25-16, 25-14 and 25-6.

Whitney Williams scored 19 points and two aces to lead the Silver. Allison Wable scored 12 points, three aces, had seven kills and five digs; Torrye Cline scored eight points, three aces; Bridget Matthews had five points, two aces; Sami Jones scored four, had five kills, one block and four digs; Devinn Moore scored four; Keri Suter scord two and had three digs; Sydney Reed had one kill and one block; Abby Atkinson had four kills; Haylea LeMasters had two digs; and Shay Yonaley had four digs and Carly Fletcher, two digs.

Suter set the ball 32 times and was credited with 14 assists; and Cline had 20 sets and five assists.

The Lady Knight junior varsity team also played against Doddridge, defeating the Lady Bulldogs 25-4 and 25-16.

Kerstyn Cline scored 18 points in the effort; Devinn Moore had five points, six aces; Hillary Casteel, four points; Sydney Reed, three points; and Bridget Matthews, four points.

At Wheeling Park on Sept. 10, the Silver faced off with Union Local. The Lady Knights got off to a rocky start but wound up with the win in the contest in three games by scores of 25-27, 25-20, and 25-16.

Scoring points in the match were: Wable with 12, Yonaley, six; Suter, six; Casteel, six; Megan Carpenter, five; Torrye Cline, five; Kerstyn Cline, four; and Reed, two. Atkinson had eight kills and five blocks; Wable had six kills, two blocks and three digs; Carpenter had five kills, and one block; LeMasters, four kills; and Torrye Cline had six kills and four digs.

Suter had 38 good sets and 17 assists and Torrye Cline had 31 sets and 10 assists.

Though they battled fiercely, the Lady Knights were short-handed against Wheeling Park at the venue, due to ACT tests, and took the loss on the chin, 25-18 and 25-22.

Wable scored three pints, two aces, had seven digs, one block and 11 kills; Carpenter scored two points, one ace, had one dig, one block and two kills; Kerstyn Cline scored three, and had one dig; Atkinson had two kills and one block; LeMasters had two kigs, one kill and four assists; Reed scored one point; Torrye Cline scored three points, two aces, six digs and six kills; Suter had seven digs; Yonaley had nine digs and Fletcher, three digs.

Suter had 33 sets and 14 assists; Torrye Cline had 16 sets and two assists.

Tyler Consolidated will play at St. Marys on Thursday and at Cabell Midland on Saturday.
