Busy week for Lady ‘Cats
With four games in four days, it has been a busy week for the Lady Wildcat volleyball team who have amassed a 7-3 record thus far in the season. The team continues to work on their consistency, and head coach Fred King says while he sees improvement in certain aspects of their game, there is still room for more.
On Sept 6 the Lady ‘Cats welcomed Wood County Christian to Bob Burton gymnasium, handing them the loss in three, 25-14, 22-25, and 25-14.
Dominique Craft scored 17 points, two aces in the game for the home team; Amanda Heasley had 16 points; Logan Cosper, 12 points, one ace; Kelsey Loy, 12 points, one ace; Josie Fox had nine points; and Lynnsie Parsons scored six. Heasley had 16 good kills, four blocks, and four digs; Craft had 15 kills, four blocks, and five digs; Parsons, seven kills, two blocks and four digs; Fox, five digs; Cosper, seven digs; and Loy had one dig.
Cosper set the ball 80 times in the game and was credited with 37 assists.
The Lady ‘Cats then took little time in getting the win over the Lady Bishops, defeating Bishop Donahue 25-10 and 25-19.
Josie Fox was the leading point getter for the Lady ‘Cats with 15. She also recorded three digs. Craft scored 10 points, had nine kills, and four digs; Loy, scored nine points had one kill and had five digs; Cosper had seven points; Heasley scored seven, had 10 kills, and one dig; Parsons, three points, seven kills, two blocks and a dig; Megan Pierce had one kill and one dig; Tori Anderson had two digs; and Graeson had one dig.
Cosper had 33 good sets in the game and 25 assists; Amber Neff had five sets and one assist.
Paden City traveled to Wheeling to take on the Maroon Knights, and came out ahead in two games, 25-9 and 25-15.
The Green and White had three players scoring in double digits in the game: Dominique Craft, Amanda Heasley and Kelsey Loy each scored 10 points apiece against Central. Parsons added six points and Baker added three. Craft had eight kills, one assist, and five digs; Heasley had seven kills, two blocks and three digs; Parsons had four kills, and one dig; Loy had two kills, one block and two digs; and Megan Pierce had one kill and one dig.
Against Conotton Valley, the ‘Cats lost in three: 25-17, 11-25, and 23-25.
The main point getter for the Green was Amanda Heasley who scored 16 points, had 14 kills, three blocks and three digs in the contest. Fox had nine points and one dig; Cosper scored 12 points, two aces and had three digs; Loy scored eight points, one ace, two kills, and had five digs; Craft, seven points, one ace, nine kills, two blocks and four digs; Parsons, seven points, three kills, five digs; and Pierce had one kill and one dig.
Cosper set the ball 75 times and was credited with 25 assists.
On Sept. 8 the Lady ‘Cats faced off with Beallsville at home, taking the loss in four games: 25-16, 12-25, 20-25, and 23-25.
Heasley scored 16 points for the Green in the game. She had two aces, 17 kills and six digs. Craft scored 14 points, had 11 kills, and 15 digs; Hizer scored 12 points and had three digs; Baker scored eight, and had three digs; Cosper had eight points and one dig; and Loy scored seven points, had three kills, blocked one and had three digs.
“We just weren’t happy with our execution,” coach King said. “We’ve had more service and spiking errors than we have anything else, and just did not execute the way we can. We’re going to right that ship this week.”
On Monday, Paden City traveled to Bridgeport, easily taking the match in three games, 25-17, 25-8 and 25-18.
Graeson, Cosper and Hizer all had good days at the line, scoring 14 points apiece in the effort. Graeson served up two aces and had three digs; Cosper, two digs; Hizer, one dig; Craft scored 13 points, had 17 kills, two blocks and five digs; Heasley scored 11 points, had 12 kills, two digs; Parsons, five points, three kills, six digs; PIerce, one point; and Fox, two digs.
The Lady Wildcats will play at Valley on Sept. 15.
