‘Cats win first outing
The Lady Wildcat varsity volleyball team of Paden City high school held their first games at home on Aug. 31, facing off with St. John Central, Monroe Central, Linsly and Valley.
In the first match-up of the day the Lady ‘Cats took on St. John Central, winning the match in two of three games, 22-25, 25-19; and 25-19.
Lynnsie Parsons scored 14 points in the game, had four kills, and four digs; Kelsey Loy scored 14 points, had four kills, one block and three digs; Dominique Craft scored 13 for the Green and White, was credited with 16 kills, three blocks and six digs; Amanda Heasley scored 10 points, had 14 kills, three blocks and five digs; Graeson Baker scored seven points; Josie Fox, five points; and Logan Cosper, two points and five kills.
It was all Green and White when the home team took on the Valley Lumber Jills in their next contest, defeating the Black and Gold in two straight, 25-13 and 25-16.
Craft scored 12 points in the game, two aces, had six kills, four blocks and three digs to lead the Green. Cosper scored nine points, one ace; Parsons had eight points; Baker scored seven for the ‘Cats with one ace and two digs; Heasley had six points, seven kills, and four blocks; Loy scored five, and was credited with four kills; and Haley Hizer had two points and one dig. Also getting digs in this game were Megan Pierce, one; Tori Anderson, two; Amber Neff, one; Josie Fox, two; Hannah Stanley, one.
The Ladies in Green were competitive, but found themselves falling to Monroe Central in two of three games, 25-11, 22-25 and 25-10.
Scoring for the Green and White were Heasley, nine points and one ace; Loy, eight points and two aces; Craft, five and one ace; and Parsons, four. Craft had eight kills, three blocks and six digs; Loy had four kills and seven digs; Heasley, four kills, four blocks and six digs; and Parsons had three kills and seven digs.
Against Linsly, the Lady ‘Cats took the match in three games: 27-29, 25-10, and 25-20.
Putting points on the scoreboard for the home team were: Craft with 16 points including one ace; Josie Fox, 16 points; Parsons, 11 points and one ace; Heasley, nine points and one ace; Logan Cosper, six points; and Loy, four points, four aces.
Craft had 19 kills in the game and six digs; Heasley was credited with 14 kills and four digs and three blocks; Parsons had seven kills; and Loy had two kills and five digs.
The Lady Wildcats will play again on Sept. 7 at Wheeling Central; Sept. 8 at home versus Beallsville, and on Sept. 12 at Bridgeport.
