CC teams compete at Grand Vue
It was another busy week for the Silver Knight harriers as they competed in their home meet on Sept. 28 and traveled to North Bend State Park on Sat.
The inaugural “Stormin’ the Castle” meet was held with Tyler Consolidated Middle School runners taking both the boys and girls races. Sean Camerlin lead out the boys race with a time of 15:07. Of the remaining 11 runners, Creed Eller finished 5th in 17:07 and Zach Bonner was 12th, finishing in 23:53.
Marisa Gogan was the top finisher in the girls race with a time of 16:25. Becky Bolin was the next Knight in coming in 3rd in 18:41. Twenty seven seconds back, in fifth place, was McKenzie Bradfield. Celeste Beard ran her first race of the season and finished seventh in 23:23. Next through the finish line were Vanessa Templeton and Cosette Bantug, finishing 9th (23:25) and 11th (23:33), respectfully, amongst the field of 14 competitors.
Unfortunately, due to OVAC soccer, FFA, and a few injuries, there were no Tyler High athletes competing in the meet. Finishing first overall for the boys, was Magnolia’s Bill Feeney, stopping the clock at 18:37. Taking the girls race was Laken Ramsey of River, completing the hilly course in a time of 23:37.
Forty eight runners toed the line for the middle school boys race at the WV Insurance Inv. on Saturday. Camerlin, Eller and Bonner pushed themselves into 17th (12:45), 30th (14:24), and 48th (21:22) places respectfully.
The middle school girls lined up next, with 56 total to start. Gogan turned in a 13:53 performance, good enough for 14th place. Bradfield finished next in 38th position in 16:30. Bolin, Bantug and Templeton all finished strong in 48th(18:25), 50th (19:30) and 56th (22:26) spots.
High School boys were next up, with Ryan Dalrymple leading the Tyler racers. He finished 71st out of 97, with a time of 22:24. Devon Thompson clipped the line in the 90th spot in 26:08. Two Silver Knights girls competed in the high school race. Jennifer Yost finished 58th(27:48) out of 82 and Emily Wells was 71st (31:04).
Three weeks remain in the 2010 season with several important races coming up. The cross country teams will compete again at the OVAC Championships at Meadowbrook on Oct. 9; at the LKC championships on Oct. 14 and at the Cameron Wild and Wet Invitational on Oct. 16.
