Boys soccer team wins over Magnolia, 3-0

By Staff | Oct 6, 2010

The varsity boys soccer team at Tyler Consolidated played only one game last week, that being in the OVAC tournament, where the team entered the field of play seeded seventh.

Against the Steubenville Big Reds the Knights scored the first goal ever for the program in OVAC tournament competition, but still took the loss, 4-2.

“Steubenville is a good team, but we were able to play with them,” said Knight head coach, Scott Wall. “We lost to this team last year, 1-0, but we felt better about our play this year.”

The Knights were down 1-0 at the half, but came back quickly in the second half to tie the score at 1-1 on an Einar Mellen penalty kick. Dylan Romine also scored for the Silver.

Knight keeper, Skylar Kinnard played well in goal, with 16 saves.

“We’re progressing well at this point in the season,” Wall said.

“I guess you can say that we’re not as young as we used to be, since all of our players have received a lot of field time, and now we’re playing like it. We’re still moving people around a good bit, no one is playing one position for long, but that actually seems to help us more than hurt us.”

The Silver Knights welcomed the Magnolia Blue Eagles to Brubacher Field on Monday. Tyler Consolidated garnered their ninth win of the season with the 3-0 win. Scoring goals for the Silver were Jeremy Smith, Einar Mellen, and Justin Cooper.

The Silver traveled to Parkersburg Catholic on Tuesday and will play at South Harrison on Thursday.
