Red Devils keep Silver Knights winless, 55-14
The Silver Knight football team knew they had their work cut out for them when they traveled to Ravenswood on Friday to do battle with the number one ranked team in Class AA, the Ravenswood Red Devils. But some back luck and miscues had the Tyler Consolidated team returning to Tyler County with yet another loss of the season, 55-14.
The Red Devils started off the game by scoring a safety within the first two minutes of the game and then tacked on seven more points in the next minute. And so went the Silver’s luck for the rest of the evening.
The Knights were able to light up the scoreboard with 1:53 to go in the second quarter when Corey Lowe made a 29 yard run in for six, followed by a Blaise Rice kick. In the third quarter, quarterback Jordan Smith found receiver Zack Knowlton on the other end of a 27 yard pass for the TD, followed by the kick.
“Offensively, mental lapses cost us,” said Knight head coach Rob Caldwell. “Defensively, we’re giving up to many big plays. We stopped them, and stopped them, and then, just kind of watched them for a play. This is the middle of season, we’re going to have to start being accountable and responsible. We don’t ask a single thing of our guys in games that they haven’t done in practice a hundred times or more. It’s time to be accountable.”
The Silver Knights gained 240 total yards in the game, to the Red Devils 462. Knight quarterback, Smith, passed for 161 yards, completing 18 of 30 passes and was intercepted once.
Lowe was the leading receiver in the game for Consolidated, catching six for 38 yards. Knowlton caught five passes for 56 yards; Boone Kehrer had five catches for 48 yards; Issac Graham had one catch for nine yards and Alex Doak caught one for ten yards.
In the rushing department, Graham ran the ball 30 times for 85 yards. Evan Cline rushed three times for five yards.
Defensively, Cline had six solo tackles and one assist; Cody Laugh and Boone Kehreer had five solo tackles and one assist each; Hunter LeMasters, four tackles; Doak, three tackles, and covered a fumble; Graham, three tackles, one assist; John Kocher, three tackles, two assists; Knowlton, two tackles; Koty Martin, Cory Lowe, Josh Ruble, Ryley Warner, and Nathan Heintzman were each credited with one tackle apiece, with Lowe also snagging an interception.
The Silver Knights will not play on Friday as they have an open date on the schedule. The Tyler Consolidated team will play again on Oct. 8 when they host Oak Glen.
“We’ll have a week to heal, nurse some injuries, and then we’ll be right back at it,” Caldwell said.
