Paden City Wildcats downed by Gilmer Co.

Paden City’s Wildcat varsity football team traveled to Gilmer County on Friday eveinging to do battle with the Titans, but returned home to Wetzel County with the 32-12 loss.

“They were a nice team, some good skilled athletes with a good quarterback and an excellent running back,”said Wildcat head coach Brent Croasmun.

“We gave what we had, we just couldn’t match up to them.”

Sophomore Drew Bidwell led the ‘Cats as the quarterback, completing eight passes for 177 yards, two touchdown passes and was intercepted twice. In his first attempt at the quarterback position, Croasmun said Bidwell made a fine showing. “He did what we asked him to do, and I think he performed very well.”

Geoffrey Bidwell caught six passes for 160 yards, including the two touchdown passes; Taylor Still caught two passes for 17 yards in the game.

Still led the Wildcat running attack gaining 37 yards on 16 carries.

Defensively, Trey Leonard had nine tackles for the Green and White; Keith Hardbarger had eight tackles, and two fumble recoveries; and Peyton Hinkley and Ben Anderson each were credited with sacking the Gilmer County quarterback.

Paden City will take their game to Hundred on Saturday when they face off with the Hundred Hornets at 1 p.m.
