Knights pocket first win
The week in baseball saw the Silver Knights of Tyler Consolidated get their first win of the season and the Wildcats of Paden City dropped their record to 6-4.
The Silver Knights faced off with the St. Marys Blue Devils on April 6, with St. Marys coming out on the up side of the 15-1 score.
The Devils opened up the game with three runs scored in the first inning to take the lead. Knight errors played a part in the third and fourth innings where St. Marys put five and six runs on their side of the scoreboard.
The Knights scored one run on six hits, left nine men on bases and committed two errors in the game.
Dalton Wells started on the mound for the Silver, walking one batter, striking out one and giving up nine hits. Junior Blaise Rice came on in relief walking 10, striking out seven and giving up 13 hits.
Senior Brandon Grimes knocked a double; with Jared Lantz, Dalton Wells, Nick Albers, Justin Carpenter, and Zack Minger all hitting singles in the game.
On April 12 the Knights played host to Doddridge County, and put together some good innings in order to get their first win of the season, 16-5 win over the Bulldogs. The Knights scored 16 runs on 14 hits, left six men on base and had four errors in the game.
On the mound for Consolidated, Carpenter was credited with the win, throwing four strike outs, walking one and giving up three hits. Minger also saw time on the mound, striking out three and giving up one hit.
Offensively, senior Brody Northcraft knocked a triple, double and single for four RBI’s in the game; Minger connected for a double to plate three; Grimes doubled for one RBI; Garrett Amos placed three singles for one RBI; Zach Knowlton hit two singles for two RBI’s; Nthan Bolin hit one single and had three RBI’s; Carpenter singled; Koty Martin singled, for one RBI; and Wells singled with two RBI’s.
Paden City’s Wildcats played at Cameron on April 12, falling to the Dragons, 17-4.
Cameron opened up the game on fire and held fast to take the win in five innings. The ‘Cats scored four runs on six hits and had six errors in the game. Cameron scored 17 runs on 14 hits and played error free.
Taking the loss on the mound for the Green and White was senior, Josh Bennett, who struck out two and walked one. Mitchell Stewart also saw time on the mound, walking three and striking out one.
At the plate, Zach Yost hit two singles to get credit for one RBI; and Jamie Billiter singled to plate a run.
The Silver Knights are scheduled to play at Williamstown on Wednesday and will play in Paden City on April 17 at noon.
Paden City will play at Magnolia on Wednesday, and at Valley on April 15 before hosting Tyler Consolidated on Saturday.
