The Silver Knight boys team did very well at the Invitational, placing second overall in the team rankings, just behind meet host, Williamstown. The Yellow Jackets took the team win with 98 points, followed by Consolidated with 89; St. Marys, 81; Ritchie County, 79; Magnolia, 70; Parkersburg South, 45; University, 38; Ravenswood, 32; Waterford, 12 and Wirt County, 10.
Even though team members were missing due to TSA commitments, several Consolidated athletes placed in the top of the placers at the Invitational. Knight senior Nate Taylor settled for nothing but first place in each of his individual events, the 100 meter, 200 meter, and 400 meter; senior Aaron Estep not only placed first at the meet in the 3,200, but set a school record by eight seconds when he placed second in the 1,600. The shuttle hurdle team took first place; the Knight 4 x 100 meter relay team placed second; as did the 4 x 200.
“We had kids missing, but it allowed for our young talent to step into the limelight,” said boys head coach Joe Semple. “Even with our full team present there are going to be some events we just can’t cover.”
“Aaron Estep did a heck of a job in both the distance races he ran, and set a new school record in the 1,600, and Nate Taylor was definitely on his game.”
“We have so many young athletes with talent on this team,” he said. “But until they get experience, they’re going to be on the outside looking in, right on the cusp.”
