Wrestlers send one to state tournament

The Tyler Consolidated Silver Knight wrestlers are the first local high school team to finish their regular season, which they did last weekend at Oak Glen High School at the class A/AA Regional wrestling tournament.
The Silver Knights hoped to qualify several of their roster of 12 for the state tournament at the Regional, but that was not to be, as the team qualified only one.
Senior Brandon Grimes was the only Knight to wrestle his way to a top four position at the Region, placing third in the 171 lb. weight class.
As a team, the Silver and Black placed 10th of the 12 teams participating in the Regional.
The Golden Bears of Oak Glen, long a powerhouse in both the Region and State, took the overall team win with 277 points. They were contested mainly by Williamstown, who placed second with 175; and Cameron, with 166 team points. The rest of the field finished as follows: Weir, 136; Madonna, 124; Clay Battelle, 100; St. Marys, 85; Magnolia, 57; Bishop Donahue, 53; Tyler Consolidated, 49; Ritchie County, 36; and Parkersburg Catholic, 30.
Also placing in the top six at the tournament for the Silver Knights were: John Brosky, 119, fifth place; Joe Henthorn, 130, sixth place; Nate Taylor, 152, fifth place; and Brody Northcraft, 160, fifth place.
Should one of the top four wrestlers in each individual weight class not be able to attend the state tournament, the fifth place wrestlers will move up and qualify to go.
Though he placed out of qualifying position, Knight senior Nate Taylor achieved his 100thwin of his high school wrestling career at the Regional. With the win, Taylor becomes only the fourth wrestler in Tyler Consolidated school history to reach this achievement.
Grimes will begin his state tournament matches on Thursday in Huntington against the best in the state. If all goes well, he will make the championship match on Saturday night.
