Wildcats clinch win over Irish

At Paden City on Friday night, the Wildcat varsity boys collected their first win of the season in front of their home crowd at Bob Burton Gymnasium, defeating the Irish of Bellaire St. Johns in fine fashion, 56-36.

Junior Wildcat Zach Yost led all scorers in the game with 18 points and brought down four rebounds. Senior Malakai Anderson wowed the crowed with 16 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and three steals.

Josh Bennett added 15 points had three rebounds and a steal; and Peyton Hinkley pulled down 10 rebounds and scored five; and Drew Bidwell and Matt Barker scored a point apiece in the win.

“It was a good win,” said head coach of the Wildcats Fred King.

“We’ve had a tough time this year, I’m glad for the boys.”

Earlier in the week the ‘Cats took a loss at the hands of Williamstown on Jan. 28, 66-40.

Anderson had a nice game with 25 points, three rebounds, five assists and three steals to his credit. Yost added nine points and brought down three rebounds; Bennett scored five and had three rebounds; and Hinkley scored two points and had six boards.

On Jan. 26 at home against Beallsville, Paden City was on the low end of the 76-31 score.

Anderson scored 13 points for the home team and was credited with five assists and a steal.

Yost added 11 points and had three rebounds; Taylor Still, Jamie Billiter and Peyton Hinkley each scored two points in the effort; and Bennett scored one point and had two rebounds and two assists.

The Wildcats saw action again on Tuesday as they played host to Clay Battelle at Bob Burton Gymnasium. On Feb. 5 the team will play at Hundred in a rematch. Though the Hornets have put together a good season, the ‘Cats hope to come out with the win.
