Lady Knights and ‘Cats battle on

By Staff | Jan 27, 2010

The girls basketball season seems barely to have started and already local teams are planning senior nights in preparation for season’s end.

Both the Tyler Consolidated Lady Knights and Paden City’s Lady Wildcats played games last week hoping to add to the plus side of their records.

On Jan. 18 the Lady Knights took on St. Marys and fell to the Lady Devils by 15 points, 80-65.

A slow second period for the Silver and Black where they only added eight points to the scoreboard to St. Marys’ 22, likely cost the team the win.

Junior Heather Suter led the Lady Knight scorers in the game with 15 points and had six rebounds. Team mate Sami Jones added 14 points; Lynsee Casteel and Keri Suter each put 10 points on the scoreboard; and Christy Jones and Tiffany Lohri each scored eight in the effort.

The Lady Wildcats fell to Wood County Christian on Jan. 18 at home by the narrow margin of 39-28. Erica Sapp led the Lady ‘Cat scorers with nine points; Allison Bertozzi scored six; Megan Cutlip had five; Dominique Craft scored four; Amanda Heasley, two; and Courtney Conaway and Amanda Tallman each added one.

Against the Lady Hornets of Hundred on Jan. 20, Paden City fell behind in the first period of play and found themselves unable to unseat their competition as the Hornets took the win, 65- 46.

Tallman led all Wildcat scorers in the game with 17 points. Cutlip scored 12 followed by Bertozzi’s 11, Sapp’s four and Khunisorn’s two.

On Jan. 21 the Lady Wildcats took on the 4-6 Lady Lumber Jill’s of Valley, collecting their 11th loss of the season in a close game, 49-45.

Senior Alli Bertozzi led Paden City with 18 points, 14 rebounds and five steals. Cutlip scored nine points; Tallman had eight; Craft, four and Sapp, two in the effort.

On Friday the Lady Knights will be heading to Weir and will play at Paden City on Feb. 1.
