Wrestlers take 4th at Ritchie County Duals

By Staff | Dec 16, 2009

Tyler Consolidated High School’s varsity wrestling team saw action for the first time this season at the Ritchie County Duals on Saturday.

Last year, the Silver Knight team brought the championship trophy home from the tournament, this year however, the Knight grapplers carried the fourth place award.

The team scored wins over the home team and the reserve team from Bridgeport. The Wirt County team took the championship this year with Bridgeport’s varsity placing second and St. Marys third.

Silver Knight seniors Nate Taylor and Brandon Grimes each turned in perfect scores for the day, with Taylor pinning three opponents and catching two forfeits and Grimes winning both of his matches at the tourney.

Senior Brody Northcraft pinned three of his opponents in the first period of the matches and had a 10-1 major decision in another match. His only loss came in the last second of the match as he went 4-1 on the day.

Silver Knight junior Matt Stevens had two wins at the Ritchie event with John Brosky, Levi Henderson, Tom Keller, Joe Henthorn, Greg McDougle, and John Epsilantis each gaining one win.

Consolidated will host a dual with River tonight at home at 6 p.m.

On Saturday the Knights will host their annual “Wrestle-A-Bout” tournament at Tyler Consolidated with teams from Magnolia, St. Marys, Ritchie Co., Wirt, Sissonville, Ravenswood, South Harrison, Clay Battelle, Bishop Donahue and Weir participating.

The tournament is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.

Anyone that would like to volunteer to help with the tournament is asked to call the school.
