Knights fall to Red Riders
The Silver Knight boys basketball team started off the ’09 season against an experienced and strong Weir Red Rider team at Weir on Dec. 11. Though the Knights were only able to score 12 points in the first half to Weir’s 39, the second half of the game told a different story.
“We just kinda stood and looked at them in the first half,” said head coach of the Silver Knights, J.C. Kimble. “They were like a small college basketball team out there, we were intimidated before we even started the game, but we snapped out of it in the second half.”
In the second, the Knights put 32 points on the scoreboard, but it was to-little-to- late as they took the fall, 74-44.
“I don’t think our guys thought we could hang with them, but they still had their starters in during the third quarter and we did okay,” the coach said.
“Dustin Snider had a good game as did Corey Lowe and Aaron Estep. This was a very physical game, so we had quite a learning experience.”
Lowe led all Knight scorers in the game with 18 points; Aaron Estep scored 12; Snider, Alex Jones, and Boone Kehrer each tallied four marks apiece; and Zack Minger added two.
In the junior varsity match-up, the Consolidated JV team fell to Weir, 40-35. Jeremy Smith led the Silver with 10 points, followed by Kehrer with nine; Skylar Kinnard, eight; Zack Knowlton, five; Jordan Smith, two; and Aaron Fuller, one.
The Silver Knights played host to Williamstown on Tuesday and will play at Parkersburg Catholic on Dec. 17.
