Paden City volleyball ends season at 31-9
The Lady Wildcats of Paden City competed in the Class A Region I, Section II, Sectional volleyball tournament and Regional last week, gaining some wins, but ending their season with a 31-10 final win/loss record, and just short of a trip to the West Virginia State Tournament.
The team traveled to Weirton Madonna for the Sectional tournament.
Paden City took the semi-final game in three over Madonna, 25-11, 25-7 and 25-6. Amanda Sellers had 22 sets and 16 assists for the Wildcats and Amber Palmer had 16 sets and nine assist. Dominique Craft scored 17 points and three aces; Sellers, 15 points and an ace; Amanda Tallman scored 15 points and five aces; Amanda Heasley, four and one ace; Palmer, three points.
Alli Bertozzi had 20 kills in the game and Tallman had five.
The ‘Cats defeated Bishop Donahue in three, 25-16, 25-20 and 25-19. Palmer had 34 sets in the game and Sellers had 32. Craft scored 13 points and one ace to lead the ‘Cats;
Heasley scored 11 and had four aces; Bertozzi had seven points and three aces; Sellers scored six; Palmer and Tallman added three each.
Bertozzi had 19 kills in the game followed by Tallman with seven and Cutlip with four.
At the Regional held at Wirt County, the Lady Wildcats fell to Williamstown in four sets, 13-25, 25-15, 10-25 and 15-25.
Sellers set the pace with 44 sets and 22 assists; Palmer set the ball 35 times and 14 assists.
Craft led the scoring with 12 for Paden City; Sellers added five; Tallman, four; Amanda Heasley, four; and Bertozzi scored two points and had 22 kills.
The Wirt County Lady Tigers wound up with the championship of the Region, defeating Bishop Donahue and Williamstown. The Tigers will vie for their fifth state volleyball championship in Charleston.
