Lady Wildcats end regular season at 29-9

It has been an excellent season for Paden City’s volleyball program, ending their regular season play with a win/loss record of 29-9. The team saw a lot of action last week, including taking the top spot in the Mason-Dixon Conference and heading into Sectional play as the top seed.

Against Parkersburg Catholic on Oct. 27, the Lady ‘Cats took the game in two sets, 25-10 and 25-20. Alli Bertozzi had 22 kills to lead Paden City in the contest.

Amanda Tallman scored 10 points and two aces; Amanda Sellers had six points and an ace; Dominique Craft had six points and an ace; Bertozzi scored four with two aces; and Amanda Heasley scored two points and had one ace.

Sellers had 21 sets and 19 sets and Amber Palmer had 18 sets and 11 assists.

On the same night the ‘Cats played three sets to take the win from the Lady Eagles of Magnolia.

Bertozzi again was on her game with 26 kills, five points and an ace.

Sellers led all scorers in the game with 11 and had 36 good sets and 28 assists. Amanda Tallman scored nine points and had nine kills; Craft scored six points and seven kills; Amanda Heasley had six points and one ace; and Palmer scored four points, had one ace and set the ball 28 times with 16 assists.

At home on Oct. 29 the Lady Wildcats played host to Jefferson County Christian and Tyler Consolidated High Schools.

Against Jefferson County, Paden City dominated taking the match in two sets, 25-9 and 25-8.

Craft led the home town scorers with nine points, followed by team mates Palmer with eight; Tallman, seven; Bertozzi, six; Sellers, four and Heasley, two. Bertozzi had 12 quick kills and Tallman was credited with six.

Sellers achieved 25 good sets in the game with 10 assists and Palmer had 14 sets and five assists.

Tyler Consolidated took in the win in the match with the ‘Cats in three games, 25-21, 22-25 and 17-25.

Bertozzi was outstanding in the kill department with 31 in the game. Amanda Sellers had 42 good sets and 20 assists and Amber Palmer set the ball 26 times and had 13 assists. Craft scored 15 points; Sellers, seven; Heasley, five; Palmer, two; and Tallman, one.

Paden City hosted the Mason Dixon Conference Volleyball Tournament on Oct. 31 at Bob Burton Gymnasium where they outlasted both Bishop Donahue and Morgantown Trinity to take the championship.

It did not take the Lady ‘Cats long to do the Bishop’s in, defeating them in two sets, 25-11 and 26-24. Craft led all Wildcat scorers with 10 points and four strong aces. Sellers scored nine points in the win and had 22 sets and 13 assists; Palmer scored three points, had one ace and 22 sets, 13 assists; Tallman scored two points and had four kills. Bertozzi had 15 kills in the game.

The ‘Cats took the championship in the game with Trinity, 25-9 and 25-17.

Craft led the Wildcat scorers with 10 points, followed by team mates, Tallman, with eight; Bertozzi, four; and Palmer and Heasley with three points each. Bertozzi had 12 kills in the game; Tallman, six; and Palmer, Craft and Megan Cutlip each had one.

Sellers set the ball 20 times in the contest and was credited with 10 assists; Palmer had 15 sets and eight assists.

The Lady Wildcats took part in the Region I, Section I Class A tournament at Madonna on Monday and Tuesday.
