Knight soccer team wins, 7-1

By Staff | Oct 14, 2009

Tyler Consolidated’s boys varsity soccer team added a notch in the win column of their season record on Oct. 13 with a 7-1 win over the Blue Devils at St. Marys. The win put the Knights at 11-5-1 to date.

At St. Marys the Silver turned up the defense, allowing only three kicks at the goal by the Blue Devils, giving their own keeper, Skylar Kinnard, two saves in the game. The Knights took 28 shots on goal.

“It was a good game,” said head coach of the Silver Knights, Scott Wall.

“We were a little frustrated by the field conditions, but we played well. We didn’t hold possession as much as I’d like or as much as we have in other games, but again, field condition.”

Scoring for the Knights in the contest were Dustin Snider with two goals and one assist; Curtis Romine scored one; Spencer Kinnard had two goals in the game and three assists; Giovanni Forner dos Santos scored a goal and had one assist; and Alex Jones kicked one in for a point for the Knights.

“Everybody got to play in this game, and that’s always a good sign for us,” Wall said.

“We were able to change things around some, and do a couple of different things. We had some weaknesses from time to time, but our defense did a good job throughout the game.”

The Silver Knights played host to St. Marys at home this week on Tuesday and will play their last regular season game at home on Burgbacher Field on Saturday against the Ravenswood Red Devils.

The game will be the second event on a double-header ticket for the day with the Lady Knight soccer team hosting the Lady Devils in an earlier game at 10:30 a.m.

Because this will be the last home game for both Tyler Consolidated teams, seniors on both teams will be recognized for their commitments to the Knight soccer program in between the two games.

The boys game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
