Fire destroys home

By Staff | Jan 9, 2013

These photos show the result of a fire which occurred the morning of Wednesday, Jan. 2, at 920 Maple Lane, Country Club Heights in Sistersville.

The Richards family renting the home was not there at the time of the fire. Pastor Phil Richards of the Sistersville First Baptist Church, his wife Teresa Richards, daughter Marisa Richards, and son Matthew Richards were at the church at the time, handing out clothing.

The fire departments of Sistersville, Middlebourne, and Paden City all responded. Sistersville Chief of Police Ben Placer, who was on the scene, commented that the fire departments worked well together. He said the fire, which caused extensive damage and rendered the house uninhabitable, appears to have been electrical and originated in the attic.

Flames rekindled later that night and were again extinguished.

“It is common in fires that a hot spot may remain,” said Placer.

Many personal belongings were destroyed. Anyone interested in assisting the Richards family can contact the First Baptist Church.
