Cat on the mend

Iád first like to thank Rosey Cozart, and the Wetzel County Animal Welfare League, for referring me to Dr. Meckley, and helping with some of the expenses, for spaying and neutering seven feral cats.

Iám not a big believer in miracles, or the power of prayer. However, I recognize exceptionalism, when I see it. It was in the hands of Dr, Shaun Meckley, DVM.

On the evening of June 6th we found our semi-feral cat Izze Mae, severely injured, with a long, deep, laceration to her rear left leg and abdomen on our porch. How she made it home, I have no idea.

Her injury was so bad, that I thought she was in shock and would die in a matter of hours, if not minutes. While my wife was crying over Izzi Mae, I dug the poor catás grave. Over an hour passed, and she was still living. Dr. Meckley, had spayed her 4 months earlier. So I called, and left a message on his answering service. He returned my call, I told him what happened to Izzi Mae. I sent a picture of the wound to his cell phone. He called me back saying, bring her to his office at 8:30 am.

That morning, he examined her wound and it was much worse than he thought, because he could not tell from the photo, that her rectum and vagina were also tore. He wasnát certain that she would survive, but with his expertise, and years of experience, he saved her life. The following Monday, he removed her drain tubes and said, bring her in again next Monday, to redo her stitches. However, the stitches tore apart that Thursday evening. Again, I called and he operated on her Friday morning. She still needed additional care, so on Saturday his day off, he operated on her once more. He called me and said, she was doing much better and I could bring her home. He changed her meds to something more powerful to fight the infection and relieve her pain.

He had me bring her in again on Friday the 23rd. On the 23rd, he said she was doing much better and to bring her in on July 7th. On July 7th he removed her stitches and cone and said âsheás made a complete recovery no need to bring her back.ã

She is a house cat now, safe, protected, and well taken care of.

Of the six times Dr. Meckley, examined or operated on IzziMae, four times there was âno chargeã.

The charges for her recovery, were very reasonable, much less than I anticipated.

Dr. Meckley, and his entire staff, are very professional and courteous, towards you and your pets. I highly recommend him, for all your veterinarian needs. This is a man, dedicated to his profession, and does the utmost to his abilities, do to what he can to save an animalás life and to keep your pet healthy. His compassion for animals, is as heartfelt as the compassion he has for their owners.

His office is located on the right 3.5 miles out on 180, from New Martinsville, WVa. Phone 304-337-8080. His kindness and efforts will always be appreciated and never forgotten.
