Letter to the Editor – Thomas Trader Sr.
Dear Editor,
I saw in the paper that our Police Chief wants to make a parking lane on Rt.2 so people will not park on curb or sidewalk. Our ordinances need enforced, that is why they are in the ordinance book. The ordinance says, no parking on curbs or sidewalks.
Our police need to read the ordinance book. As big of trucks that come through town now with the oil and gas vehicles, even with a parking lane, that narrows Rt. 2 and cars are still going to get hit. We also have a cat ordinance that is not enforced. We have another ordinance that says no boats or trailers parked on the streets. They are all over town. It depends on who you are, needs to stop. The ordinances are for everyone.
Our Police budget in Paden City is over $400,000 a year. Our Police Chief just got a raise. Instead of always sitting on Rt. 2, they should be patrolling the side streets more. Catching the cars running stop signs and speeding up and down the streets. The city does not get much of the money from tickets written on Rt.2,. We need more protection in our town not on Rt.2, that is what our hard earned money is paying such a big budget for.
Also there is talk about a utility tax. Why do we need another tax? We already pay water bill and sewage bill. I understand that our water rates had to go up, because of all the work been done to update our service. But people are out of work and losing their jobs. The last two years have not been good on the economy. We do not need new taxes put on us like a utility tax.
Our City Government works for the people of the town and need to work with us and for us and watch what they vote on. I know all of this because I was a councilman for 5 years. You work for the people that vote you in to look out for their best interest. Thank you for your time.
Thank you, God Bless
