FROM THOMAS E. TRADER, SR.
Letter to editor,
I am writing concerning the condition of Route 2 in Paden City and New Martinsville. It is a shame how the county and state take care of Route 2 in these towns. In both of these towns Route 2 needs milled down and blacktopped, not what they are trying to do now. They blacktop half lanes. They are not even smooth. I have driven on gravel roads smoother than these. When trucks go through Paden City the road is so rough that it rattles our house, and we do not live along the highway.
Maybe Wetzel County should buy its blacktop in Ohio. It seems Ohio’s blacktop is smoother than ours. I know that it is how it is put down. I was being sarcastic. It seems they are more worried about putting a four-lane through Kent, north of New Martinsville. They talk about infrastructure in towns. Fix the roads first, and then maybe businesses will want to move to our area. I drove through Follansbee, W.Va. the other day. They milled all of Route 2 down from one end of the town to the other and blacktopped it. It is like driving interstate.
I think our area is forgotten, or we get the leftovers. Do they even know where Wetzel County is? Route 2 in Paden City and New Martinsville is an embarrassment to the citizens of Wetzel County. Thank you for your time.
