Full Enjoyment Is a Matter of Attitude

By Staff | Jun 24, 2020

One of the neatest things in the world is attitudes. They are as different as night and day and come and go about as often. I get a kick out of attitudes. If you want to have some fun, and I think most people do, get on facebook or social media and post something controversial, then just set back and read the posts, while visualizing the attitudes.

Nothing is more fun than posting a very liberal or conservative point of view just to see the reactions. It’s hillarious. Even better yet, if you are an editor, just write something you know will raise someones blood pressure, and set back and wait on the phone calls, or letters to the editor.

Attitudes can be very stressful, so the best thing to combat stress is full enjoyment. I fine that full enjoyment is a matter of attitude. No medications or any therapy can come close to fighting off the health affects of stress. A serious attitude is very important, but along with it has to be some moments of enjoyment, fun and laughter. After all it’s a well known fact that laughter is the best medicine.

The other day I walked into a restaurant, spoke to a man, and he never spoke back. I continued on, found a seat, and got this feeling as stated by Murphy’s Law, that “everything that can go wrong – probably will.” Kinda made me feel like “what did I do to him?” I noticed I was getting a negative attitude and figured the only way to feel better was to go back and speak to him again. It worked, at least for me. He spoke back with this little attitude of irritation, but it completely changed my attitude to positive, and I got a good laugh from it.

My mother used to tell me to try and remember peoples names, she said it’s more polite to call them by name instead of just saying, “Hi how you doing.” She also told me to always address my elders as Mr. and Mrs., somewhere along the line most people today have forgotten or were never taught these common courtesies.

I love it when I hear someone talking behind my back. Like the other day when a professional businessman was talking to another gentleman a few seats away, unaware of my presence, and he said something about the local newspaper, I heard it and the other man knew it, so he quickly acknowledged me, so nothing else would be said. I enjoy that, it’s called fighting the inevitable, and you can waste an extreme amount of energy on those things if you want to. However, it’s more fun to take your business elsewhere the next time you need his product or professionalism.

Having a positive attitude can be a life saver, especially as you grow older. Bad attitudes and aging are a matter of mind over body. Some people want to pout and complain, having self pity, never laughing, they are negative and sarcastic, and always casting blame. To be very blunt, your bad attitude will take its toll on you.

I always liked the prayer that’s known as the Serenity Prayer. It was a prayer written by the American theologian Reinhold Niebuhr, and is commonly quoted as: “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.” As much as I like that quote, I think this one is more fitting for today. “God grant me the Senility to forget the people I never liked anyway, the good fortune to run into the ones I do, and the eyesight to tell the difference.”

The mistake some people make, is using their mouth to make life miserable. Enjoy every moment of your life. Learn to laugh and have fun, stay positive even when those around you seem negative. You can make other people happy just by having a good attitude.

Here’s what I’ve seen lately, the blame attitude, the negative attitude, the guilt and regret attitude, the irritation attitude, the self pity attitude, the uselessness attitude, the fear attitude, and the dependancy/death attitude. If you haven’t already, watch the movie Mr. Rogers, watch it all the way through, it will surely help take away some of those attitude problems. You’ll get an attitude adjustment, while coming away a much better person.

So, stay positive, have an attitude of enjoyment even when things are going wrong. The best way to make life enjoyable is to make it fun. No one wants to be miserable, so learn to enjoy life, have a quick sense of humor. Time flies whether you are having fun or not. editor@wetzelchronicle.com
