Thankful For First Responders
On the evening of Tuesday, Dec. 25, many of us were resting in the comfort of our homes, surrounded by family and friends and enjoying the comfort and joy that Christmas Day brings.
To us, when Christmas rolls around each year, it seems as if the world around us pauses for a moment of peace. All seems calm, and all seems well.
In our experience, we do think of our area’s first responders – the firefighters, law enforcement, and EMS personnel – during these times and are thankful for their ever-watchful presence, that they stand at the ready. However, we admit that we weren’t at all expecting them to have to encounter the sort of situation described on our front page. Yet they did.
You will read the story on our front page this week, about the trailer explosion. Perhaps more details will come from this troubling situation at a later date. We do not know.
What we do know is that our first responders, away from their own families, kept us safe on Christmas Day. They continue to keep us safe everyday, and we are grateful.
