Silver Knights Had a Great Season

By Staff | Nov 16, 2016

Tyler Consolidated High School teams have a lot to be proud of this past season.

The football team (6-5) was ranked more than a few times among the top 20 best teams in the state.

The Silver Knights made it to the first round of the playoffs, and made East Hardy earn every point. Tyler Anderson, Jace Reed, Griffin Phillips and others created an exciting passing and running game that made the season memorable. Worth noting, the Silver Knights beat Magnolia. The last time the team did that was in 2003 when most of the team were still little kids.

The volleyball team compiled at 46-17 record with sectional and regional titles, and another trip to the state playoffs in Charleston. Coach Richard Summers earned his 500th win this season.

Madison West broke the record for most points scored in a single match – 25 – at the state tournament.

The boys’ soccer team fared well all season, making them a contender at the sectional finals. Girls’ team goalkeeper Autumn Wells made scoring hard for the opposing team.

The golf team posted solid gains this year, laying the groundwork for a bright future.

The boys and girls cross country teams broke new barriers by setting and then breaking personal records. Gavin Corley, Jahnvi Duncan and Katie Pratt were ranked among the best runners in the state. Though just an eighth grade student, Spencer Corley set a new school record. Of course the one he broke was his own from last year.

Success like this all goes to show that it is not the size of the school that matters, so much as it is the size of an athlete’s heart and desire to win.
