Maintaining Functionality, Preserving History
The Tyler County Commission was recently forced to close the Tyler County Courthouse for a week due to the boiler needing repaired. This down time highlights the need for other repairs and renovations to the courthouse as well.
Tyler County Commissioner Eric Vincent stated that the commissioners’ goal is to preserve the courthouse for future generations. They are actively applying for grants to aid in the preservation. The courthouse was built in 1854 and renovated in 1922. It’s a beautiful structure, but in need of some TLC.
Historical buildings like these are slowly disappearing. If they are not taken care of and protected, the communities they define will be lesser for it. The trick is coming up with the funding to address the issues. The commissioners understand that, and seem to be up to the task.
