Sports Rivalry Turns Unfriendly

By Staff | Oct 7, 2015

On Friday night, during the Tyler Consolidated vs. River High School football game, some events took place that go beyond good competition. Property at Tyler Consolidated was spray painted with derogatory statements, and RHS’s initials. Tyler busses were pelted with eggs. It is not yet known whether these acts were done by students or supporters.

It is, however, clearly uncalled for.

Rivalries are as old as sport itself. Schools will always talk trash to each other, design t-shirts for opponents, and make up chants to show support for their teams. But there is a big difference between support, and vandalism. These actions are unnecessary, and embarrassing. They are also illegal. Here’s hoping those responsible are identified, and held accountable.
