The battle has begun
We applaud the concern and interest of the many local residents who attended the drug awareness/panel discussion meeting held in Sistersville last week. This meeting was an excellent beginning in the fight of illegal drugs attempting to take over our communities. But it is only a beginning.
Though the burden of stopping the advance of the drug problem has been placed on law enforcement agencies’ shoulders, this is not a battle they alone can handle. This is a battle that can eventually be won, but only with the combined cooperation of every person in the community. It is a battle that will see success only after our law enforcement, schools, churches, neighborhoods, businesses, grandparents, parents, and kids are all on the same page.
The meeting on Dec. 18 was the first step, but the battle must not end here. More information and action needs to be next.
We agree wholeheartedly with Prosecutor Luke Furbee who was completely serious when he said that this is our county, our community. He was right when he said, “If you don’t want the dealers and users here, you have to be brave enough to make a stand.”
And no quote was ever more appropriately used than when he said, “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.”
Great job citizens of the county. Keep up the good work and stay vigilant.
