Support the levy

By Staff | Mar 19, 2014

Early voting is currently underway for the City of Sistersville’s General Election.

While it seems there is much activity concerning the primary race for the seat of mayor (we will print a question and answer with the two candidates next week), voters need to also be aware of the issue of a special levy election.

The simple vote for or against the levies is a simple vote for or against many amenities in the city. We would consider these to be essential to the municipality. This levy supports the park, library, fire department, and street department.

The cost of the levy to taxpayers is the following cents per $100 of assessed valuation: 6.25 cents, Class 1 property; 12.50 cents, Class 2 property; 25 cents, Class 4.

But what is important to note is that these rates are what you are already paying. This vote is for the continuation of a levy that has already been on the books.

A vote for this measure is not a vote for new taxes. It is just an affirmation that you believe in your city and many of its services.

Please vote for the levy.

While the general election is on March 27, early voting is now in progress at the city building through March 24: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
