Quite an honor

By Staff | Jan 16, 2013

We are so proud of Steve Zechman and Linda Jensen for their second place award in the West Virginia Conservation Farm of the Year contest.

When the state evaluation team came to tour Long Creek Farm near Little in late August and we were invited to attend the event, we were amazed at how nice their farm looked.

While we aren’t experts in farming practices or conservation management, we could tell that they devoted a lot of time and energy to their operation. As Zechman narrated the judges’ ride around the farm, it was obvious that he was very knowledgeable and tried his best to make sure the farm was groomed and operated properly.

We had great hopes for how the farm would fare in the contest. We knew that, historically, operations in our area just aren’t usually able to compete with some of the more pastoral areas of the state. But we hoped for a first place.

When news came back of their second-place win we were still very happy for their achievement. Honestly, just being “nominated”, or more precisely in the running, for the award was an honor and testament to their hard work.

Long Creek Farm and its presence in the contest certainly provided the state with a wonderful glimpse of Tyler County and its people.

You made us all proud. Congratulations.
