More focus is being placed on recycling and protecting the environment. For this reason, many garbage collection entities have imposed strict guidelines with regard to what can and cannot be tossed out on the curb.

As a result, electronics waste is growing exponentially. Televisions are used on average for less than two years. For computers, it’s three. Recycling, or “E-cycling,” these and other electronic items is critical for preserving landfill space and for ensuring that hazardous materials used to make electronics are properly disposed.

Thankfully, three events aimed at helping us rid our households of hard-to-dispose-of-items have been planned for this Saturday.

Tyler County Solid Waste Authority is sponsoring an E-Cycling Event, April 14, at the Tyler County fairgrounds. Computers, monitors, small kitchen appliances, etc. will be accepted.

The TCSWA will pay a $2 bounty on the following items: washers, dryers, refrigerators, stoves, hot water tanks, dishwashers, and freezers.

Additionally, WV DEP REAP and TCSWA, in cooperation with WV Make It Shine, will be collecting tires at the fairgrounds. The collection is limited to 10 tires per household. No rims will be accepted.

Items must originate in Tyler County and be brought by a Tyler County citizen. No businesses. No items accepted prior to April 14.
