For ‘A Child’s Christmas’
It’s a miracle, a true miracle, that shines like a Bethlehem star, as communities, churches, schools, and businesses join as one to provide joy and good cheer to neighbors and friends who need a little extra help.
Christmas is a blessed season, the celebration of a beautiful gift bestowed by a loving Father to his children. How fortunate we are, to unwrap that gift of love each December in our own lives, and to confer the gift to others. No matter how large or small the tree, or the size or number of presents, the message of the season lives in each and every one who gives of themselves, in in the spirit of peace, love, and goodwill toward men.
The Jaycees have a long-standing tradition of serving our community. And, as far back as many of us can remember, one the their biggest projects has been “A Child’s Christmas.”
For many children in our community, this project is more than a toy drive, it is a shining symbol of hope, joy and the miracles of the Christmas season. For those who give, it’s a chance to reconcile with the youthful notions of Christmas we’ve misplaced over the years
Sadly, the Sistersville Chapter of the Jaycees recently disbanded. Through oversight and miscommunication, a void was left…and “A Child’s Christmas” slipped through the cracks. Lucky for us and the children who are served through the program, Santa found a new generation of elves willing to grasp the torch and run. Thus, the formation of the Tyler County Chapter of the Junior Chamber is in the works.
But hold your applause until the last “t” is crossed – we still have work to do this Christmas.
The magic of Christmas and the act of selfless giving have made this project successful for so many years. It’s going to take a miracle to make a child’s Christmas wish come true this year. With 11 days left until the holiday, we need to pull together, and move quickly.
Examine your heart and imagine the child whose Christmas wish could be fulfilled by your generosity. Perhaps the Jaycees made a difference in your life. Maybe you were that child who longed for something – and received a Christmas dream-come-true thanks to a group of caring, committed individuals on a mission to bring the miracles of Christmas to every home.
This is your opportunity to say, “thank you.” This is your moment to shine. This is your time to step up, and make a difference in your community by creating a Christmas miracle of your own. Not for notoriety, not for prestige, for “A Child’s Christmas.”
