Several weeks ago, a flag fund was designated by the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in an effort to ensure that every pole in Sistersville had a flag on it for Veterans Day and all future flag holidays.

This enormous undertaking came at a time when gas prices, vacations and other expenses had already claimed a large portion of our paychecks – but, as expected, the community has whole-heartedly supported the project.

As of July 1, the ladies were well on their way to meeting the goal – and we have no doubt they will meet and exceed it by the end of summer. To expedite this effort, donations are still being accepted, and may be sent to Wesbanco, 250 Charles Street, Sistersville, WV 26175 or VFW Post 6327, 504 Diamond Street, Sistersville, WV 26175. Make checks payable to “VFW Auxiliary Flag Fund.”

Next week, we will publish a list of residents who donated, along with the list of flags purchased in memory or in honor of an individual.
