Reaping the Harvest of Health

By Staff | Sep 30, 2009

Fall has come once again – as it always does and always will.

Soon the crisp leaves of spring and summer will make their descent to the ground below, bathing it in a thick layer of gold and yellow and red.

As we acclimate ourselves to the chill in the air and ready ourselves for winter, we should also consider our health.

With an influx of illnesses on the horizon and the severity of influenza, pregnant women, the elderly and those with chronic illnesses should take extra precautions and speak with healthcare professionals about receiving a flu shot and a pneumonia shot.

Some professionals are also recommending that those who fall into the above-mentioned categories also receive an H1N1 (swine flu) shot when it becomes available.

Locally, vaccine clinics will be held at the Wetzel-Tyler Health Department in Paden City, by appointment. More information can be obtained by calling 304-337-2001.

In addition to vaccination clinics, Sistersville General Hospital will be offering reduced lab screenings, sleep apnea screenings and women’s health screenings for the uninsured in October as part of their “Harvest of Health” program.

Reguar lab screenings will be held at SGH on Oct. 6, 8 and 10 form 7:30-11 a.m. at a cost of $30 for females and $35 for males.

Screenings for sleep apnea will be held free of charge on Oct. 6 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m.

Oct. 8 has been deemed “Uninsured Women’s Health Day” with screenings at the Paden City Medical Center and SGH from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m.

So get out there, take care of your bodies and join the community in reaping the harvest of health!
