Betty Jo Morgan, 81, of Middlebourne, WV, passed away on August 21, 2025. She was born on October 31, 1943, to the late Joseph and Leota Belle (Keys) Smith.

Betty Jo was a graduate of Tyler County High School and West Liberty State College, followed by a career as a high school teacher in the Tyler County School system that spanned five decades. Primarily a teacher of keyboarding and business classes, she served as advisor to the Future Business Leaders of America and was widely known as someone who students could talk to about larger life issues beyond their schoolwork. Betty Jo was a longstanding member of Ripley Chapel United Methodist Church and an active participant in its Women’s Group. In leisure hours, she enjoyed reading historical fiction, flower gardening, and walking her dogs. She also was a tireless supporter of her family, including her loving husband of 58 years, Jerry Morgan, her sons, Stacy and Ryan, and her grandson, Reese.

Betty Jo was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother, Donald Smith. In addition to her sons and grandson, Betty Jo is survived by her brothers, Jerry, Neil, and Kenny Smith; herdaughters-in-law, Anne Wynn and Amy Harries; her nieces, Cheryl Kinney, Tammi Smith Bowers, Terri Smith, Bobbi Jo Harlan, Mariah Bailey, Merdith Smith Prudhomme, and Priscilla Smith; her nephews, Jeff Mead, and Donnie Paul, Benny, Brian, Brad, Wesley, and Joseph Smith; numerous cousins, other relatives, close friends, and many generations of former students.
