George L. Moore

Mar 13, 2024

George L. Moore, 84, of Sistersville, WV left his family behind on Friday, March 8, 2024 while at his home and surrounded by his loving family.

George was born May 10, 1939, in New Martinsville, WV son of the late Charles and Ruth (Jones) Moore.

Lester was retired from Ormet, a long-standing member of the Pleasant Valley Church of Christ, Lester was a family man, a true patriarch, and a friend to all. He never knew a stranger, as he’d talk to anyone for hours on end. He loved to spend time hunting and being outdoors. Some of his favorite memories included staying at the cabin with family and friends during hunting season. He loved to take his children and grandchildren hunting, and those memories will live on and be cherished forever. He was an ornery man, always picking on those he loved. Making people laugh was something he was best at. Rarely do you talk or think about him and not smile. He loved fiercely. It wasn’t often that Lester would let you leave his company without a hug or a kiss on the cheek, and that held true to the end. You never had to question how much he loved you; he always made sure you knew. He especially held a deep love for his wife, Marie. He loved her to his last breath and made sure she knew how much.

In addition to his parents, Lester was preceded in death by his son, George and infant son, Timmy; brothers, Raymond, Jack, and Stanley, and sister, Virginia.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marie, of 64 years; four children, Thomas (Cindy) Moore, Sandy (Jim) Cochran, Jamie (Cathy) Moore, and Matthew (Ashley) Moore, twenty-two grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Friends received 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at the Furbee-Williams Funeral Home, 217 Main St., Middlebourne, WV where services will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 13, 2024. Burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery with Full military honors.
