Tyler County Schools Provides Meals to Children During the Summer

By Staff | Jun 3, 2026

(Tyler County/May 2026) – Tyler County Schools is working to make sure that no children in Tyler County go hungry when school is closed this summer. The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) ensures that children continue to grow and learn during the summer. The Summer Food Service Program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is the largest federal resource available for local programs that combine mealtime with recreational and educational activities.

Tyler County Schools recognizes the need for the program in Tyler County. “Many of our children, who rely on school breakfast and lunch during the school year, do not have the same opportunity during the summer. That’s where we come in, by providing nutritious meals and activities to keep kids nourished and engaged.”

Amanda Kimble, Director of Food Service for Tyler County, believes “Our responsibility to kids doesn’t end when school lets out. Kids who get enough to eat and have safe activities to participate in during the summer are less likely to get into trouble. Our summer meals program is a building block in the community for healthy, happy kids who are ready to learn.”

The Summer Food Service Program for Children is a federally funded program operated nationally by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and administered by a State Agency. Eligible sponsors such as non-profit organizations, schools and local governments serve nutritious meals and snacks free during the summer months.

The Tyler County Board of Education, in their regular meeting held May 4, 2026, was informed of the Summer Food Service Program. According to Amanda Kimble Director of Child Nutrition, the program will operate at the following locations:

Meals will be served at Tyler Consolidated Middle/High School, 1993 Silver Knight Drive, Sistersville, WV 26175. The summer food program will operate Monday through Friday, June 15, 2026 through Friday, July 24, 2026. Breakfast will be served from 8 am – 9 am and lunch from 11:00 am -12:30 pm.

Meals will be served at these three sites Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from June 24, 2026 through July 24, 2026. Only lunch will be served at these sites.
