Tyler County BOE Hires Summer Staff
The Tyler County Board of Education met on Monday, May 18 at the board office in Middlebourne. All board members were present. Superintendent Shane Highley was not present. Mrs. Feldmeier, Director of Human Resources, sat in for Superintendent Highley, who was unable to attend. First up was the approval of the minutes from the April 27, budget overview and the May 4, 2026, regular meeting and board training.

Mr. Highley would like to thank the voters of Tyler County for voting to pass the levy. “Its a great day for the students in Tyler County.”
Under the financial review, the final budget for 2026-2027 was approved. All budget revisions were approved. A change order to Rycon Construction Inc. for the Tyler Consolidated Elementary School Project for a reduction of $1,986,705.18 was approved.
The TCMS Knights Volleyball schedule for 2026-27 was approved.
Approved were the New Policies for 30-day public review 1. 8000-8999 Operations 2. 9000-9999 Relations. Please visit www.tylercountypublicschools.com to review all new policies in the sections listed above.
The following trip requests were approved. Suzette Miller requested approval for three students to represent Tyler County at the Golden Horseshoe Day at the WV Culture Center Capitol Complex in Charleston, WV, on June 19, 2026. Students will be transported by parents in their personal vehicles to and from the event.
Other Requests submitted and approved to the Board included approval of requests to cross county lines to attend Tyler County Schools for the 2026-27 school year, as submitted.
Suzette Miller requested approval for a Memorandum of Understanding with Walden University for Kelli Potoczny to serve as a supervisor for Carissa Smith as she completes her master’s degree in social work. This partnership will begin in June 2026. Suzette Miller also requested approval for a Memorandum of Understanding with the Education Consulting Teams (ECT) related to supporting teacher participation in the M3T Network. Tyler County received a grant for this project. Amanda Kimble requested approval for a Memorandum of Understanding between Tyler County Schools and Wetzel County Schools regarding the establishment of a Cosmetology Program at Wetzel County Technical Education Center (WCTEC). Shannon Taylor requested approval for the Girl Scouts Black Diamond to use the Sistersville Elementary School’s cafeteria for a sign-up meeting on May 14, 2026. The organization will be completely responsible for clean-up. Krista DeVaughn will over-see the event.
Ethan Koontz requested approval for the Tyler County Youth League to use the softball field at Tyler Consolidated for the 10U youth softball games on May 28, 2026. The organization will be completely responsible for clean-up. Sasha Farrell and Brook Haught will over-see the event.
The following employment and transfers were approved: Employ Adam Clegg, Steve Eastham, Cody Hoover and Nadine Greathouse as Summer Custodians, countywide, effective June 3, 2026. Sarah Patterson, Tim Patterson, Jim Drain, Steve Eastham, Melissa Gump, Nadine Greathouse, David Pelikan, Denton Thomas and Cody Hoover as Summer Painters, countywide, effective July 1, 2026. Transfer Alexandra Cox from her current position as Special Education Instructional Aide/Autism Mentor at Arthur I Boreman Elementary School to Classroom Instructional Aide at Arthur I Boreman Elementary School, effective the 2026-2027 school year. Casey Goudy as Assistant Girls Soccer Coach at Tyler Consolidated High School, effective immediately. Mary McGinnis as Evening Events Coordinator at Tyler Consolidated High/Middle Schools, effective the 2026-2027 school year. Natasha Gum as Assistant Volleyball Coach at Tyler Consolidated Middle School, effective immediately.
Approval of the Payment of the Bills that were presented.
