Lighthouse Multidisciplinary Investigative Team members attend a training session.

The Lighthouse Child Advocacy Center hosted a Multidisciplinary Investigative Team Training, aimed at equipping professionals from various fields with the knowledge and skills necessary to support children and families during investigations of abuse. This crucial training took place on February 27, 2025 at West Virginia Northern Community College.

With 42 participants in attendance, the MDIT Training brought together law enforcement officers, child protective services workers, school social workers and counselors, mental health providers, prosecutors, and other community partners, all working collaboratively to ensure the safety and well-being of children. The training focused on enhancing communication and coordination among these key agencies to foster a comprehensive, child-centered approach to handling abuse investigations.

Key Training Topics Included:

· Mandated Reporting;

· Best practices for conducting child interviews using the CAC;

· Legal considerations in abuse investigations;

· Trauma-informed care for children and families;

· Interagency collaboration and effective communication; and

· The role of each team member in the investigative process.

“We are thrilled to offer this valuable training to our community’s professionals,” said Susan Scharf, Executive Director of The Lighthouse CAC. “Working together as an MDIT allows us to provide the best possible support to children and families impacted by abuse. The training is a critical component in strengthening our community’s response to child abuse and ensuring that children are safe and heard.”

The Lighthouse CAC remains committed to being a trusted resource for child abuse victims and their families. By hosting events such as this, the Center continues to strengthen its partnerships with local agencies and professionals, ensuring that every child has a voice in the investigation and recovery process.
