Winning Wetzel Students Moving On To Regional Social Studies Competition

Five Wetzel County Schools’ students will be participating in a regional social studies competition after winning at the local level.

The 2025 Wetzel County Social Studies Fair was held Feb. 15 at Paden City High School.

“Students from schools in Wetzel County brought their winning school projects to compete at the county level,” according to the district’s social media. “Two divisions were represented along with categories including Sociology, State and Local History, Economics, Anthropology and Geography.”

Five students scored a 90 or above and placed first in their division, allowing them to compete in the upcoming Regional Competition that will be held at the John Marshall High School Field House in March.

The winning students and their projects include:

Kyle Mason – “We Are Marshall” – Division 1/Individual- State and Local History;

Jacob Shepard – “Disneyland: Swamp to Million Dollar City” – Division 1/Individual- Economics;

Dillon Utt – “Presley Martin, founder of New Martinsville” – Division 1/Individual- Geography;

Ariel Hall – “Monsters of West Virginia”” – Division 2/Individual – Sociology; and

Vince Ebert – “Greek Mythology” Division 2/Individual – Anthropology.

“Congratulations to all and good luck to those moving on to the regional competition,” organizers wrote on social media.
